Fairy Art
Fairies, or faeries, have long been a popular subject for artists. In Victorian England, many painters were inspired by classical and renaisance art to create their own visions of faerie worlds. Some used Shakespeare as a reference. Today, a whole new generation of faerie artists is on the scene. The best known of these is probably Brian Froud, who has created many fairy paintings, books and drawings and even a fairy oracle. There are, of course, many other fine artists creating original and imaginative work in this always fascinating genre. The popularity of fairy art goes along with fantasy novels and movies. We might call this fascination with faeries escapist, or we might see it as a deep desire to connect with deeper, more mysterious aspects of ourselves and the universe. Faerie Realms
